beginning improv for intermediate level piano students
Welcome to the 2nd edition of Rockin’ Around the Keys!
Thank you for purchasing any one, or all, of these rockin’ etudes for early intermediate piano students who just want to have a little fun as they learn how to play in all the major keys.
What’s new in this edition?
The font is way cooler, am I right? It’s easier to read, with so many visible improvements.
I shortened a lot of the improv sections, instead of having a lead sheet that is the same length as the entire song. (of course, if a student still wishes to improvise over the entire song, that’s still an option) Also, the left had written out chords during the lead sheet sections, are there only for reference. The student may want to use them to get started, or come up with other ideas, such as different inversions of the chords, or even different rhythmic patterns.
As always, these are stand alone etudes, and one can simply choose not to improvise at all. Just end the song at Fine, or the 2nd ending, etc.
A few of the etudes are a little different from the 1st edition. Some different rhythms, harmony, and melody, here and there. I have no tempo markings on any of the tunes. Every etude has some teachable technique within, but there is no need to rush or strive for faster tempos. These tunes are meant for fun. The ones that are marked for swinging tempos are way more fun to play, if they swing.
There are no pedal markings, just remember if you want to add pedaling (and you will, sometimes) change the pedal when the harmony changes ( when the chord symbol changes ).
Have fun and check out my next book – Chillin’ Around the Keys!
